Vivid Color Home Care Recommendations and Tips
Do not shampoo for the first 48 hours after your appointment. When you do wash, keep in mind that cold water is your new vivid color’s BFF. (warm water opens the hair's cuticle, or top layer, and since vivid colors sits on top of the hair the more you blast that cuticle open with hot water the more color is removed).

Professional sulfate free shampoo is best to protect all hair color. All of our products at Heads Up are sulfate free, paraben free, cruelty free, and most are even gluten free and vegan….and every single one is color safe!

Please note that we cannot guarantee the longevity of any hair color if you are not using professional quality products.

Even with sulfate free shampoo, you should still try to cut back on shampoo use. Dry shampoo is very helpful for those in-between days – we love KMS Hair MakeoverAmika’s Perk Up Dry Shampoo! Amika also has a pre-shampoo treatment designed to help keep you color in your hair when washing. Fadeblock is a pretty awesome and unique new product!

Just like your skin, the sun isn’t great for your hair color. Try wearing a hat if you’ll be spending a much time in the sun. There are also UV protection sprays for your hair – we recommend Amika’s Color Vault Leave-In Conditioner.

If you plan on heat drying or styling your hair – a thermal protectant is extremely important! We have some dedicated thermal protectants and most all of the rest of our styling products have built in heat protection. We are currently obsessed with KMS Therma Shape Quick Blow Dry Spray for heat protection with a faster drying time. We have many options, so ask your stylist what is best for you!

As there may be some residual color on your scalp or hair, we highly recommend NOT using your good towels or pillowcases as they may stain. Dark fabrics are less likely to show any color transfer. If you are participating in an activity that will make you sweaty, do not be alarmed if some of that residual on-scalp color appears on your skin. (tip: most makeup remover wipes remove color from your skin!)
